BACKGROUND OF THE LAND COUNCIL

BACKGROUND OF THE LAND COUNCIL

The La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) as the representative body for those belonging to the La Perouse Aboriginal community. The La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council is an autonomous body which is governed by a Board elected by the local Aboriginal community.

Today, La Perouse and Phillip Bay is an established residential and recreational area, however, despite the strong economic growth, Aboriginal people in the area are still facing significant disadvantage.
